The Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao) is found in southern Mexico, Central America and into South America. They are brightly colored with feathers ranging in color bands from scarlet on their head and shoulders, to yellow on their back and mid wing feathers and blue on the wing tips and tail feathers. The bird’s face has short white feathers. This area surrounds the light yellow colored eyes. The beak is long and light on the top and dark black near the bottom. The legs and feet are dark gray to black. Body length is approximately 3 feet (90cm) with the tail comprising approximately 1/3 - 1/2 of this. Tail feathers of males may be longer than females. Macaws feed mostly on fruits and nuts.
