Atlantic Spotted Dolphins (Stenella frontalis) are found in the tropical and subtropical waters of the Atlantic Ocean. They can also be found in the Indian Ocean and in some parts of the Pacific. Like other dolphins the Atlantic Spotted is a gregarious creature. It is a fast swimmer, keen bow-rider and prone to acrobatic aerial displays. Stenella frontalis grows to lengths of seven and a half feet and weighs up to 310 pounds (140 kg.) These dolphins make a variety of sounds used in echolocation and communication. Sounds are described as "loud whistles, chirps, low intensity click trains, squawks, barks, growls, and cracks."
